The original Memphis Plug. Smelled like a plate of BBQ. It was Bright Virginia and Tennessee Dark Fired. I have not seen that on Whole Leaf Tobacco’s since then. A friend found a new supplier call Total Leaf Supply that did have Tennessee Fire Cure tobacco and I jumped on that.
You can ignore the Burley in the picture. Picked that up to try for a different blend.
Memphis plug is 50/50 Dark Fired Tennessee and Flue Cured Virginia. The Virginia is cased with blackberry casing. This is made by mixing 100g water by weight and 100g of sugar by weight. Add a cap full of white vinegar and spoon full of Brewer’s Best Blackberry and bring to a boil and stir until clear. Let cool and spray 2oz for 1 lb of stripped Virginia. Dark Fired tobacco needs no casing, just need to strip the main leaf vein.
So now the big screw up. I packed it in the tube without dividing it up with spaces.
Essential making a brick of tobacco. I only let this be pressed for 1 week which is why
it is a broken flake. I was afraid if I let this go too long it would be impossible
to extract from the tube.
My solution was to lay down the frame press and jack the plug out. Today I learned that hydraulic jacks don’t work push less 90 degree angle. So I had to angle the press up.
