Memphis Broken Flake

The original Memphis Plug. Smelled like a plate of BBQ. It was Bright Virginia and Tennessee Dark Fired. I have not seen that on Whole Leaf Tobacco’s since then. A friend found a new supplier call Total Leaf Supply that did have Tennessee Fire Cure tobacco and I jumped on that. You can ignore the Burley in the picture. Picked that up to try for a different blend. Memphis plug is 50/50 Dark Fired Tennessee and Flue Cured Virginia. The Virginia is cased with blackberry casing. This is made by mixing 100g water by weight and 100g of sugar by weight. Add a cap full of white vinegar and spoon full of Brewer’s Best Blackberry and bring to a boil and stir until clear. Let cool and spray 2oz for 1 lb of stripped Virginia. Dark Fired tobacco needs no casing, just need to strip the main leaf vein. ...

Çerkez Çeşmesi Blend

Çerkez Çeşmesi (Circassian Fountain) is a historical fountain located in the İlkadım district of Samsun, Turkey. It is situated within the Karasamsun neighborhood, an area known for its rich history dating back to the city’s older settlements. This is my first blend using Samsun tobacco and seemed like a good name of a historical location. It seems like a peaceful place to sit and enjoy one’s pipe. The blend is made from whole leaf tobacco. Only thing was cased was the Red Virginia and this was ribbon from the red ribbon experiment. I used a manual tobacco shredder for the perique and samsun. ...

Of course everyone said I need to make the actual blend. So I literally tossed some things together and everyone loved it, especially when Carter Hall briefly disappeared off the market. Original Dix formula was: 42% Sutliff Maryland 21% Sutliff J4 Burley 19% Dunhill 3 year Virginia and later replaced with McConnel 5 year Virginia when Dunhill went bye-bye 19% Sutliff 515 RC-1 Red Virginia Dix was a really good old codger blend. Of course continued derailment of the forum threads that we came up with Whiskey Dix, the aromatic version of Dix. ...

Red Queen V

Scandinavian Tobacco Group purchased Sutliff Tobacco and they will be moving the operations overseas. When STG did this with Lane’s Tobacco they cut the tobacco line. Red Queen V was the first blend (well fifth iteration) I made with commercial components. Given it will be unknown if the components will be available after operation cease here in the USA, I am publishing the recipe. This is not to be confused with Red Queen Plug which is made from raw leaf tobacco that can be obtained from WholeLeafTobacco.com. ...
